A Salon Called Fish was founded in 1998 by Brett Glanfield and Rob Medcalf with a clear vision: to deliver the ultimate salon experience. After many successful years leading the business, they have stepped back from day‑to‑day operations and proudly handed the reins to their exceptional team.
Under the leadership of Jude Crook, Hair Manager, and Gemma Bowden, Beauty Manager, the salon continues to uphold its reputation for excellence while nurturing the skills and talent of our next generation of stylists and therapists.

With over 15 years of experience in the beauty industry, Gemma specialises in advanced skincare and personalised client care, driven by a passion for helping people feel confident, relaxed, and radiant—inside and out.
Gemma has extensive training in a wide range of treatments including facials, permanent makeup, waxing, nails, gel nails, BIAB, brows, lashes and micro-needling, with a particular focus on skin health and anti-ageing solutions.
Gemma takes a personal pride in mentoring her younger and junior therapists to maintain her high standards, and creating a welcoming, results-driven environment for every client.

originally from Latvia, I’ve called the UK home for the past 16 years. My journey has taken me from working in restaurants in London and Plymouth to discovering a passion that I truly love — nails!”
I completed my first Nail Technician certification in London, but I knew I wanted to learn more before taking the leap into the industry. After moving to Plymouth, I went on to complete my Level 3 Nail Technician Diploma, and that’s when I really found my passion.
I absolutely love creating beautiful nails, especially BIAB, hard gel, gel polish, manicures, and pedicures. There’s something so satisfying about seeing the transformation — and even better, making my clients feel confident and pampered.
Right now, I’m balancing life as a mum , working as a waitress, and building my clientele in A Salon called Fish. I’m loving every step of the journey!
When I’m not working, I enjoy reading books or enjoying family time, we love getting outdoors for a hike , cooking together, and, most importantly, simply spending time together.

Hi, I’m Nicole! I’ve always had a love for beauty, dating back to when I was a little girl playing with makeup, doing my nails and dressing up. After 15 years working in hospitality, where I loved meeting people and making their experiences special, I decided it was time for a change when my eldest daughter started school.
I returned to college and studied Beauty Level 2 and 3, and I absolutely loved it! My biggest passion is lashes — I love creating beautiful lash extensions and, most of all, seeing the confidence they give my clients. There’s nothing better than hearing, “I love them, I feel so pretty!” I’m currently obsessed with experimenting with coloured lashes and trying new products and techniques.
Outside of beauty, life is all about my husband, our two beautiful girls and our crazy Cocker Spaniel, Rufus! I’m also heavily involved with our local rugby club, where I volunteer as the Under 10s manager for my daughter’s team and help organise social events for the club and wider community.
Whether it’s through beauty, events or simply making someone smile, I’ve always loved making people happy — and that’s what I hope to bring to everything I do.

Our Sports Therapist Cheryl, has a passion for helping individuals recover from injury, enhance performance, and move with confidence. With a strong foundation in anatomy, biomechanics, and rehabilitation, Cheryl provides tailored treatment plans that support recovery, prevent re-injury, and optimise physical function.
Cheryl’s experience includes working with athletes, active individuals, and those managing chronic pain or postural issues, using a combination of hands-on therapy, exercise prescription, and education to empower clients in their recovery journey.
